Sirt and his staff gazed upon the full force of the enemy fleet as alarms blared and reports piled up informing the Makayuuk commander of system failures and damage aboard his remaining vessels.

‘I need Jalk, if only I had more time,’ whispered the machine man to himself.

After a few moments the Mack Admiral called out ‘Order all vessels to gather on our position.’

One of his remaining staff blurted out ‘But Sirt, if we do that one anti-matter spread and we’re finished!’

Sirt shouted ‘Damn you man, do as you’re told! I want every fighting vessel on this position NOW!’

The image on the view screen was one of both awe and terror, four Tlillan clan war cruisers advanced in line formation closing in on their foe with total confidence and determination. They pressed at full speed brandishing beam weapons, much like infantry with fixed bayonets as they bore down upon the enemy. The very sight of these clan ships, similar to Napoleon’s Old Guard, was enough to break most enemies and cause them to flee. Foremost the clan ship of Xch’uup, leading her old guard upon a white horse. If Sirt had been raised Human, La victorie est a nous might be playing through his mind.

Asta swallowed deeply ‘They tried to break us.’

Sirt nodded slowly as he watched Tlillan clan ships over taking I.S.A allies, all on a direct course for his shattered fleet ‘Looks like they’ll try again.’

‘It’s as if Ek’tsab has returned to take her share of our souls.’

Sirt closed his eyelids for a moment ‘ETA for Jalk?’

A young staff member replied immediately ‘3.49 minutes Sirt, Jalk reports he’s burning out his engine plates to reach us.’

‘Order his frigates to engage now, let their blast plates desiccate if they must.’

‘Understood Sirt.’

The Machine man held his hands together before him and wrangled them, in a shaky voice he prayed ‘If Jalk doesn’t reach me soon … Xch’uup will tear me limb from limb.’

As the Tlillans closed in on the Makayuuk, enemy frigates fired their engines and rammed the Chutli, Tico, Kak and Huel. The pirate vessels made a break through the now worn down armour and the People of the Machine attempted a boarding action.
